Back To School Block Party

Kaye Morris on August 10, 2014

As volunteers were hauling out tables and chairs on Saturday morning, August 2nd, the rain suddenly rushed up on us and flooded the area. But we did not despair. God always provides a 'Plan R' to rescue/ recover us when nature hurls a surprise onto our well planned schedules. The Back To School Block Party at BSMC was moved indoors in response to heavy rain sneaking up on us.

And what a celebration it was! Reverend Jerry Thangiah, his son youth pastor Navin Jeremiadoss of Martinez Baptist, and Hope International Church had 2 choirs entertain the guests in the sanctuary. Meanwhile Carolyn & Norman Schwartz, Diane & Ken Turner, and other volunteers prepared lunches for 524 people. Thank you, entertainers and kitchen crew, for preparing the hot dogs, chips, cookies, and lemonade.

Prizes were bagged up and presented to every child who attended the Block Party. Two hundred thirty-nine backpacks full of school supplies were distributed to the 105 client families who came. It was a day to remember! If you weren't here, you missed a great blessing! Thank you to all our volunteers!
